Surface Preparation:
1. Remove price stickers and wash glassware in warm soapy water. Allow to dry.
2. Dampen paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wipe glass surface where paint will be applied.Pattern Preparation:
1. Trace “Party” and “Cheers” pattern onto a sheet of tracing paper using pencil.
2. Cut pattern to fit inside glassware.
3. Tape pattern in place with a piece of stencil tape.
4. Fill bowl of glass with dried beans; place a folded sheet of paper towel across the opening of the wine stem and tape in place. The beans will keep the pattern in place and close to the glass surface.
Painting Instructions:
1. Flowers – The flowers were painted in three sizes. Each size is painted the same beginning with a circle of color. When dry, paint long daisy petals. Each petal will begin outside the circle and will be painted towards the center of the circle. When dry, a second layer of flower petals is painted on top and smaller is size. The flower center is painted with a single dot or many dots of color. Flowers can be painted in a variety of color combinations to your liking. To duplicate this look:
Large Flower: Circle – Fresh Foliage, Large Petals – Hydrangea, Small Petals – Fresh Foliage, and Center Dots – Butler Magenta
Medium Flower: Circle – Butler Magenta, Large Petals – Pure Orange, Small Petals – Butler Magenta, and Center Dot – Hydrangea
Small Flower: Circle – Pure Orange, Large Petals – Butler Magenta, Small Petals – Pure Orange, and Center Dot – Fresh Foliage
2. If desired, paint the word, “Party” or “Cheers” as an accent in open areas of the design. Party is painted Hydrangea or color of choice.
3. Paint the wine stem base in a reverse glass method. Turn the glass upside down and paint the design of choice painting the top layer or forward layer of the design first. Paint the large daisy petals first Hydrangea. When dry, paint the background color is painted over the entire base - Butler Magenta. When inverted the design will be reversed.
4. The glass painted with “Cheers” is painted Fresh Foliage and Hydrangea. Small martini glasses as also painted Fresh Foliage and Hydrangea with touches of Cobalt Blue. Paint accents of polka dots in a variety of colors and sizes.
5. Have fun; be creative!
Finishing Touches –
1. Sign your name if desired and allow drying.
2. To cure the paint follow either the Bake Method or the Air Dry Method:
Bake Method of Curing FolkArt Enamels:
Allow your piece to dry for one hour to be sure all layers of paint have dried. Place the piece in a cool oven. Set the oven temperature to 350ºF and bake for 30 minutes. Glass must heat gradually with the oven to avoid breakage. Do not place glass in a hot oven. After 30 minutes, turn the oven off. Let glass cool completely in oven. Do not use for 72 hours.
Air Dry Method for Curing FolkArt Enamels:
Air Dry the project for 21 days before using.
NOTE: Food or beverages should not make contact with the painted design. When painting stemware, allow 3/4” along the top rim of the glass to remain paint free.
